This site was developed with the hope of bringing to light a dilemma occurring in Canada on a fairly regular basis. In specific, this website deals with the problem where Canadians fall victim to foreigners who marry them just to gain entry into Canada. Marriage fraud is a form of immigration fraud - an illegal act committed upon all legal Canadian residents. Marriage fraud is a problem that crosses ethnic and gender lines. Victims are not limited to a particular sector of the Canadian ethnic landscape. While no statistics exist, known victims include men and women of European, Asian and Mid-east origin born in Canada as well as immigrants and naturalized Canadians. We believe that laws to protect sponsor/victims already exist and may be sufficient, if enforced, to deter future occurrences of this type of marriage fraud. It is our mission to advocate the enforcement of existing legislation and, if necessary, propose additional layers of legislation in order to strengthen deterrence. At present, Canadians who have fallen victim to this type of fraud are not only left traumatized but also carry the full financial burden of a situation over which they have no control. It seems unfair that such a burden should be heaped on victims who, while having erred in judgment, find themselves deserted without a platform for legal review of their case. Ignoring this problem will not make it disappear. This problem can only grow from here as Canada becomes a destination known for lax immigration law enforcement.
